Band and Music

The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.

-Zephaniah 3:17, NIV

Praise the Lord!

Praise God in his sanctuary;

praise him in his mighty heavens!

Praise him for his mighty deeds;

praise him according to his excellent greatness!

Praise him with trumpet sound;

praise him with lute and harp!

Praise him with tambourine and dance;

praise him with strings and pipe!

Praise him with sounding cymbals;

praise him with loud clashing cymbals!

-Psalm 150:1-6, ESV

[S]peak to each other with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; sing and make music to the Lord in your hearts…

Ephesians 5:19, CEB

No one who has read the psalms can deny that we have a musical God. Since we are made in his image, this desire for music is evident in us as well! The objective of the different music programs at Trinity is for students to discover their musical gifts and use them for God’s glory.

Exposure to the fine arts is a vital part of any good education, but here at Trinity Christian music instruction has a deeper meaning. Throughout the Bible music is portrayed as an integral part of worship. Students in our music program are encouraged to develop their voices and become proficient on an instrument so that they will find an enjoyable hobby that can also aid them in praising the Lord.

Children enrolled in Kindergarten through 5th grade receive basic music instruction 2-3 times per week. This includes singing, chanting, movement and rhythm exercises, playing classroom instruments, and exposure to music from different time periods and cultures. Elementary instruction is designed to help students discover their individual musical talents and explore how they can use their gifts to praise the Lord.

Music instruction continues in the 6th grade with Beginning Band. Students have class 5 days per week and learn the basics of playing an instrument and reading music. Instruments include flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion. An instrument is provided for each 6th grader to use for one year while he or she develops the basic skills needed to continue on to upper-level ensembles.

7th-12th grades can choose Concert Band as an elective. Concert Band members participate in region events such as Concert Assessment and All-Region Band. 10th-12th grade musicians can also qualify for All-Star Band and the Four States Honor Band. Students play a variety of challenging repertoire and typically perform 2-3 concerts per year. Upper-level musicians are also encouraged to participate in Texarkana’s Second Time Around Band, the Texarkana Youth Symphony Orchestra, and their own church bands and orchestras.

The music program at Trinity is constantly evolving to suit the needs of the school. We hope you will be a part of this exciting process and will contribute your talents for the Lord’s glory!
